Special elections
When a seat in Congress opens mid-term, it's filled by a special election (and in the Senate, usually by an appointment until then). Their results are the best read on the national mood between elections.
Senate seats about to open
- Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) was elected governor; the seat opens when they're sworn in (the term ran to 2031). In Tennessee: the governor appoints a replacement; special election at the next regular November election.
Upcoming special elections
