By party registration

Ballots cast in the 25 states that report party registration (14,475,448 ballots):

  • Registered Democrats 42% (6,081,600)
  • Registered Republicans 32% (4,636,561)
  • Independents and others 26% (3,757,287)

These are not votes. They show which party voters are registered with, not who they voted for: independents decide many races, and some registered voters cross over. Only states that register voters by party are included; the rest report totals only. Since 2020 Democrats have voted by mail more and Republicans more in person on Election Day, so an early lead for either party doesn't predict the result.

These are ballot counts, not results: no state releases results before its polls close. Some states don't update daily, and states without in-person early voting count mail ballots only. Follow results on the live map once polls close.
